Why the flat pencils?
Carpenters pencils are flat firstly to prevent them rolling away; imagine juggling spirit level, heavy wooden shelf, drill - last thing you need is your pencil rolling out of reach (if you dont already keep it behind your ear that is!) They are typically manually sharpened with a knife, although special sharpeners can be used. We’d encourage you to get your youngsters involved with a bit of manual pencil sharpening (supervised of course) - who doesn’t love whiling away time with a bit of whittling.
Secondly, they look nice! And we can fit more wordy graphics on one side than if it were to be round.
Our pencils are made and printed in the UK by Chambers Pencils of Nottingham
