The Tamar flows some 60 miles southward almost from the North Coast of Cornwall creating most of the border with Devon, it flows into The Hamoaze then finally entering Plymouth Sound, then out to sea.
The Tamar is one of several British rivers whose ancient name is said to be derived from a prehistoric river word meaning "dark flowing".
