..it started with Christmas cards, some t-shirts for presents - and then a market stall a few weeks before Christmas. And then we popped-up a mini shop in the upstairs of Harp Lane Deli, Ludlow, Shropshire - our home town at the time. By assembling our wares in a lovely space, gave us the chance to see how we looked as a retail proposition - we liked it, and more importantly we sold things!
Having a shop space gave us walls and tables to fill with stuff - the shop was already busy downstairs - so a little sign to encourage the traffic up to our room, gave the existing customers an extra shopping treat to find us, a room full of unusual playful things to buy for gifts or just for themselves. We had cards, prints, teatowels lavender bags, tote bags - mostly screenprinted with our designs, and unlike anything you could get in the town, or anywhere else.
Fast forward to now, we have a shop of our own, in glorious Ashburton, Devon! Putting ourselves out there - we are now running a home made business, trying to balance creating an income without losing our creative integrity. Cant say its been a smooth journey - but we’re still at it and heading for our fourth Christmas as a bricks and mortar shop. But we would never have dared with out ‘popping-up’ first.
